“What if Neverland was fractured? What if Peter Pan’s shadow, long forgotten, was searching for something? What if memories shaped the world around us? Charting Neverland is about the maps we leave behind for others—the stories, the memories, the love. It is a reminder that even when we say goodbye, the ones we love are never truly lost. They live in the stories we tell.” - Penelope Caywood
An original new musical for young audiences, Charting Neverland invites the audience into Neverland through a tale of dreams and memories. With appearances from whimsical tinker fairies, comedic pirates, alluring sirens, and mysterious shadows, there were lots of fun environments to immerse the audience in through ambience and sound effects. An empty chasm for the Shadow, the sounds of waves crashing amidst an approaching storm for the Siren’s Lagoon, and the echoes of ticking clocks for the Time Tailor’s shop. The shadow was given a pitch shift effect and reverb to amplify their mysterious and unsettling aura, and my favorite sound effect was a comedic slide whistle each time a tinker fairy collapsed. This was my first sound design project, so I didn’t create any original effects, but I did splice effects together, and make eq adjustments and other modifications.
